The Weekend...

Somehow the idea of doing nothing is not as motivating as spending time at Google. I hate the weekend! It’s nothing compared to working at Google. The first thing I say is morning to Claudia and the last thing I say is bye to James. I’m going to miss that! I am honored to call these two my friends. I have had such a thrilling experience last week and it has been the highlight of my learning curve. I look into my Adwords account this morning and guess what... last week’s total comes up to 486 clicks,274,706 impressions, costing £58.09. I'm not quite sure who is still paying for my account but my guess is that James is still paying! I think I’d better use that £50 voucher now. I now have a whole free week before I start my two week internship at ITV. I have the feeling that my experience at Google isn’t going to be the same at ITV! I am not quite sure with what to do with myself. My mother is going crazy with my being at home. She thinks I should help clean and cook....however, I am not a cleaner, a cook or a servant! To be honest, she misses me when I go to work but when I stay at home she's goes insane...What is it with mothers? They totally contradict themselves...but deep down they love us! This is what my weekends has come to...talking about my mother. Anyways...I bought Micheal McIntyre's Autobiography 'Life and Laughing' and I think I shall start perusing it...

Interviewing Asha

Okay, she just beat Sharon! She's fantastic...she has so much to say.

Interviewing Sharon

She's been the best person to interview...I don't want to give back my flip cam, I am having so much fun filming everyone!

Day 5...Saying Goodbye

Day 5 saying goodbye...rhymes! I am in despair of when thinking about the prospect of leaving, I cannot believe how quick this week has gone! Saying goodbye is going to be hard when I am going to miss everyone here. I have made a load of friends, and have decided to keep updating my blog. I just want to say a special Thank You to a couple of people who have done a lot for me this week and have taken the time to teach me everything they know.

First most importantly, I'd like to thank James! I'm still in awe that he trusted me enough to give the Chrome Os...I don't think I could give it back by the end of today. He must think I'm a pain because I keep pestering him. I really appreciate him taking the time to showing me around and introducing me to such thrilling characters. He introduced me to BLOGGING!!...If it wasn't for him I would have not been able to make £18.56. He has done so much for me, I really do not know how to repay him back... he even used his credit card for AdWords! I bought him little gift to show my appreciation...hope he likes it.

Last but not least, the beautiful Claudia. She's been my rock this week, she has done everything for me and I can't thank her enough for it. She is genuinely a humble person...I am definitley going to keep in touch with her, she has introduced into the Google world and has opened up opportunities for me to hopefully seeing a future here. Getting her flowers was the least I could do...she has gone from setting up meetings for me to helping me understand the concepts of Google Apps. Claudia has opened me up to the world and I really hope to stay in contact with her. I don't know how I would have survived without these two.

A big final thanks to the most intelligent, bright people I have ever met through my 16 years of life! I appreciate you taking the time out of your schedule to meet me :

  • Ewa
  • Tom
  • Richard
  • Soma

  • John

And to all those I have interviewed as well!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here at Google and I hope I get to visit these great people again!

Day 4...The Cool Guys

Day 1, Day 2 and Day 3 compare to zilch to what I experienced today. I feel like I am coming out of my shell a bit...really talking to everyone and asking really good questions. I think Day 4 has been the busiest day so far. This morning I travelled across to The Belgrave House to see the beautiful Asha about Google Analytics, which is pretty neat because you can view those who click on to your blog...stalking! Basically, you get a report of who sees your site, where they come from, what their age gap is. Asha gave me a detailed overview and taught me everything and anything that you need to know about analytics. She was so prepared that she even spent time making a powerpoint...which is really sweet and I appreciate it. I think that out of all meeting this week, she was the most organized and I can't believe how young she is! I was incredibly mesmorized by her speech that we've even set up a meeting for tomorrow. I think that she had the most adorable parents in the world, and they must be really proud of her to have put her in ‘The Guardian’...which you can see at http://www.guardian-series.co.uk/your_local_areas/8790438.WALTHAMSTOW__Graduate_lands_Google_job/.

Next up was American e-commerce dude, Ed, he's pretty neat and taught me the logistics behind Google Product Search and Google Wallet. The concept is, that it’s like the new amazon that informs customers about quality of products, rather than experiencing the buying and shipping of the item. I recommed using Google Product because not only do you instantly recieve photos of the product you’re searching for, but you could also compare the prices. ‘Compare the meerkat.com’...best advert ever! I then met up with eccentric Daniel, about Google Books...which is incredible! If you purchase a book, you can read it on the web as well as on your smartphone at the same time!... for example, if you bought Micheal McIntyre’s ‘Life and Laughing’ and you were on page 81 in the web, the smartphone will automatically sync to retrieve page 81. This is absolutely insane, you would never think that Google would actually be a library...literally. Meeting with John was sensational!! He introduced me to boutiques.com
which is phenomonal, I think I could play on it all day, it’s a great way to spend time looking at clothes and creating a wardrobe that you’re never actually going to buy. I’ve even made an account...maybe I could spend the £15.22 I made today from adsense. Talking about adsense...Asha sent me the funniest picture of James as a Chicken McNugents.

Out of the blue, the pso recruitment guys wanted to give me an introduction to what they do best. Rohan and Ewa are just fantastic. It was the first time I was introduced to Ewa...I wish I had met her sooner to be honest. She is a lot of fun and started motivating me to do a lot more interviews...which is great. She has given me homework...I can't believe I have to do homework, I've already graduated from high school! Ewa's made me think about captivating questions to ask the interviewees, so tomorrow I shall be putting fellow colleagues on the spot...so watch out! This past week has gone by so quickly. I cannot believe tomorrow is my last day, I have really enjoyed my time here at Google and have made really good friends. Tomorrow's blog is going to be special as I am going to dedicate it to a few special people...so keep checking for updates! I look forward as to how my last day is going to end!

Day 3...New Friends

Day 3 has been the highlight of the week for me so far. I have been introduced to various personalities ranging from remarkably bizarre to the most enchanting. I thoroughly enjoyed the various tasks I had today. It’s 10:13 and I log in into my Adwords account and guess what...I managed to get 66 clicks and 8,652 impressions over a period of 24 hours. Overall the click through rate (which is the impressions over the clicks) is so 0.76%. I’m impressed, however the cost came up to £11.09...sorry James. I just met up with Richard who is immensely mind-blowing and cool; he showed me the ropes of Google Maps and the basis of how there are different layers of receiving data.  I really appreciate the theories that Richard came up with to explain the concept Google Maps, he helped me understand the basis of how algorithms are used to get the quickest routes onto the map. I think that Richard could make anyone between the ages of 12-17 really understand Google Maps.  His explanations really gave me an insight of  what sales engineer really do...for example, they persuade a certain company to join forces with Google so that they can work together to make the search engine retrieve specific data e.g. bus stops.

I’ve just had lunch with the lovely Jenny and Damien, and they are absolutely CRAZY...but fun. They are extremely intelligent and sincere folks, who seem to know the cool ropes around Google...I did not want to embarrass anyone so I thought I'd leave it short but sweet. Meeting up with Soma and talking about what she helps find solutions to dilemmas was absolutely inspirational, she really inspired me to keep my options open for the future, and to focus on achieving greatness in the present, because you are always going to need something to fall back on to if you don't succeed...that's a tip about life! Soma is sensational...sorry, but it's my favourite word. We really got into talking to the full extent of what she really does and how she makes sure that business transactions run smoothly, whilst also pleasing the partners. She introduced me to Google's work ethic, that the main purpose is to make sure that Google's partners are content, rather than focusing on the money side of things. Soma had a task for me today...which unfortunately we didn't have time to complete. I don't think that I am allowed to mention the problem, but she is now trying to come up with a solution. Adsense with James and Claudia was cool! I’m starting to make money now which is thrilling...I guess i should be paying James back for Adwords.

Day 2 Filming...

Day 2 was absolutely sensational! I had several exhilarating tasks during the day to keep me off my feet. My first official task of the day was to do admin for Rohan, where I had to put contacts into the system so that it would be easier to access information. Unfortunately, due to shortage of time I only got up to Dublin...Rohan is part of the PCO recruitment who deals with meetings with companies based in EMEA...it actually sounds quite interesting than I’m making it out to be. I was hoping to complete the task for Rohan throughout the day, however James had other ideas. He help set me up an Adwords account which enables me to advertise my blog and hopefully allure viewers to my blog. An advertising strategy is to broadcast my blog, so James forced me to tweet and post on facebook to blogging. So far I have zero click and zero impressions...what a great start! One of the highlights for me were, using the skinny flip video camcorders, because at school we have the overweight, plumped version...imagine using ‘The Mobira Cityman 150, Nokia’s NMT-900’ compared to the Iphone. I interviewed fellow Google colleagues as part of my video blogging task, and uploaded them onto youtube...you may them watch at ‘MissVarsh123’.  My main highlight of the day was meeting, Tom. He was absolutely, ludicrously remarkable !! He really opened me up to advertising, especially about AdMob. I was completely mesmerized by how companies get their ads onto the google search engine as well  onto smart phone apps. I am convinced that this is what I shall be aiming my future towards...but I have a felling that that might change tomorrow.

Day 1 So Far...

During my visit to Google, the lovely Claudia has been showing me around. She has shown me Belgrave house and the current office in which I am presently sitting at. I have set up a Gmail account in which I can view my schedules for the week on Google Calendar. I am officially BLOGGING...at least that's what I think it's called, I'm a blogging pariah...as you can tell. Hopefully, by the end of the four days I shall be pro. Claudia has helped me set up Google Analytics so I can preview who has viewed my blogs....little bit like stalking. I doubt that anyone would read it...so, so far that's none. Being in an office makes me feel really mature. Fingers crossed nothing goes wrong. I am now chromed. James has given me the chrome os to take home...little does he know that I have quickly become obssessed with it and I'm so addictive to it that I might not let it go when I leave. I now have chrome finger bands and a Noogler hat...I look cool!...I think. Tomorrow, James wants me to do a video diary for my blogg, and to be honest I am quite excited!
